As much as most players and teachers will say you always should practice everyday, myself included. It's sometimes good to take a break. 14 days is a little much and will deff set me back a little bit…
But 3-5 days off at first may seem like more harm than good, but after a while it lets you clear your head of any problems and struggles you may have been facing. You are able to think about these problems without jumping to a conclusion and testing it in a practice session. In my case, phrasing. I am currently working on the Bach BWV 1009, Cello Suite number 3. One of my biggest problems is about how to phrase a line. I was able to make some progress with my instrument in hand. But without it has made a huge difference... I can really think about the music, rather than how to play it. This has also given me time to really listen to greats such as Yo-Yo Ma and Pablo Casals play this piece. Of course I listened in the past, but now to really hear it they are all I have, and it's great! It’ll be long week not having it, but when I put my hands on my guitar again I am almost certain the my phrasing will have a much better sense of direction. |
